This goes beyond meeting expenses related to operations and maintenance; it also involves transport, infrastructure and services costs. If a house is cheap enough to buy and run, but located far from livelihood opportunities or amenities such as schools, it cannot be said to be affordable. Even people with consistent incomes struggle to find affordable housing to buy or rent. Rents remain alarmingly high and off the mark with salaries compelling numerous to pay over half of their monthly salary on housing.
